To select the right carpet fiber, consider how you live in each room. There are basically four types of fiber:
NYLON
Nylon is the most durable of all the fibers available. It is the fiber of choice for most homeowners with pets and children and for heavy traffic areas of the home, including hallways and stairs.
POLYESTER
Polyester is known for the luxurious look, feel and wonderful selection
of vibrant colors and styles. All of Mohawk Carpet's staple polyester
yarn comes from their state-of-the-art plastic bottle recycling facility.
This 'good-grade' PET Polyester fiber could be considered to be of
better quality then the carpet-grade polyester fibers. It's a good value
for homes with normal amounts of traffic, although less durable and
stain-resistant than nylon carpets.
OLEFIN/POLYPROPYLENE
Olefin fibers offer good stain, fade and moisture resistance. When used in specifc carpet constructions (such as level loops), this yarn will perform as well as more resilient fibers. It is a good choice for loop carpet construction such as berber carpets. Colors are generally more nuetral and styles can be limited.
WOOL
Wool carpets are still favored for their natural beauty and luxurious feel. It is a natural fiber with moderate soil and stain resistance. Wool retains its good looks due to its light-scattering characteristics.
